Hope - to believe, desire or trust; to feel that something desired may happen
America has always been a hopeful nation. The first settlers to America came with the hope of a better life. Generations of Americans have raised their children with the hope they would have a better life than their forefathers. America is the country of hope.
We have spent the last seven years losing our hope. Beginning with the horrendous events of 9/11, American hope has taken a downward spiral. Today, we face a huge national debt. We are fighting two wars. We have sky-rocketing unemployment. Many, many Americans have lost their homes. Bailouts for big business have done nothing to bailout average America. Many Americans wonder how long they can hold on. Will we be able to feed our children tomorrow?
Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all."
Hope is returning to America. Call it what you like. You can't see it but you can sense it. Nothing has physically changed but you can feel it. Positive change is in the air. Americans are finding hope again and it's contagious.
Words in the wind and voices lifted to the heavens in a sacred place. Thousands of Americans crowded together just to feel this "hope" first hand. In homes across the country, many more watching and sharing this renewed "hope." Something we unknowingly lost. Something we are once again finding.
We are not a nation divided. We are not nation in fear. We are Americans. We are the melting pot of every nationality and background. We are Americans united. We are what we always have been. We are a nation of hope. We can feel it. We are beginning to heal and get stronger. It's not about wars, money, Wall Street. It's about us. It's about America, where anything is possible.
It is about America, a nation of hope.
